When Bryson Webb first stepped onto the campus of Central Michigan University, he was a walk-on with big dreams and even bigger doubts. Fast forward to 2026, and the former De Pere infielder has not only cemented his place as one of the Chippewas' top players but also built an impressive off-field brand that's catching eyes across the sports world.
Webb's journey from overlooked recruit to breakout star is a testament to perseverance. After signing with Division II Winona State in December 2021, he seemed destined for a quieter college career. But a standout summer with De Pere's Legion team—where he hit over .400 and flashed gold-glove caliber defense during a tournament in Omaha—caught the attention of Central Michigan's coaching staff.
"Winona State is getting an amazing student and baseball player," said longtime De Pere coach Bob Van Rens at the time of Webb's initial signing. Little did anyone know that a chance connection would change everything.
De Pere Legion manager Dan Lukes, who has deep ties to CMU coach Jordan Bischel through their shared history at St. Norbert College, made a simple phone call asking if the Chippewas needed another infielder. Bischel had never seen Webb play, and Webb admits he's "quite certain" the coach didn't even know his name. But talent has a way of finding the spotlight.
Now, Webb is thriving on both fronts. On the diamond, he's become one of CMU's most reliable hitters and defenders. Off the field, he's built a social media empire with 85,000 followers on TikTok and 51,000 on Instagram, giving fans an authentic look into the life of a Division I baseball player.
From a walk-on fighting for a roster spot to a star athlete and entrepreneur, Webb's story is a powerful reminder that the best players aren't always the most recruited—they're the ones who never stop proving themselves.
