The Dutch international, who has been sidelined since November, went under the knife after conservative rehabilitation methods failed to address the issue. The club confirmed the operation on Friday, describing it as a success but acknowledging the problem was far more serious than initially believed.
De Ligt's absence marks a frustrating chapter for both player and club. The 26-year-old had been one of United's most consistent performers before the injury, having played every minute of every Premier League match until late November. "Since November, I have done everything, pushing myself in every session and exploring every option, to get back to doing what I love, playing football," De Ligt said in a club statement. "But this was the necessary step."
