The San Antonio Spurs received a major boost when the league cleared Victor Wembanyama to play in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals. But just as one concern was resolved, another emerged: De'Aaron Fox has been listed as questionable for Tuesday's pivotal matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to left ankle soreness.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET at Frost Bank Center, with the series deadlocked at 2-2. Fox's availability could swing the momentum in what has become a tightly contested battle between two Western Conference heavyweights.
The ankle issue is a new development for Fox, who had not missed a game since March 25. In Game 4 on Sunday, he logged 37 minutes and finished with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals—but the Spurs fell 114-109. His shooting struggles were evident, as he connected on just 8-of-23 from the field and 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Fox's ability to penetrate the paint and create scoring opportunities has been vital to San Antonio's postseason run, especially when Wembanyama draws extra defensive attention. Through four second-round games, Fox is averaging 16.8 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. In the first-round clincher against Portland, he posted 21 points and nine assists, then dropped 28 in Game 4 to help set up the series win.
With the series hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on Fox's status as game time approaches. Whether he suits up or not, the Spurs will need every ounce of energy to fend off a hungry Timberwolves squad looking to take control.
