Daylen Lile is making sure the Washington Nationals' lineup isn't just about the headline stars. While CJ Abrams and James Wood have been grabbing the spotlight, this young outfielder has quietly erupted into one of the hottest hitters in the game.

Over the last two games against the Cincinnati Reds, Lile has launched three home runs—his first since April 23. That's not all: he's gone 5-for-9 at the plate with seven RBIs, turning a road series into his personal highlight reel.

Tuesday night was the breakout. Leading off the fourth inning, Lile crushed a 415-foot solo shot to give the Nationals an early 3-0 lead. They'd go on to win 10-4. But he wasn't done. The very next inning, with two runners on, he sent a 429-foot blast over the right-field wall for a three-run homer that effectively put the game out of reach. It was his first career multi-home run game—and he did it just 90 minutes from his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, in front of a crowd full of family and friends.

"It means so much," Lile said after the win. "I just feel so loved and cared for from my hometown and the people along the way who helped me grow into the person I am. It's just awesome."

If Tuesday was special, Wednesday was unforgettable. Lile drove in the Nationals' first run of the night, then delivered a two-run homer in the top of the tenth inning—the game-winner that sealed Washington's second straight victory.

As the Nationals head into Thursday's finale with a chance to sweep and climb back to .500, Lile is hitting .269 with a .776 OPS. Even more impressive: he's struck out just twice over his last five games. For a young player heating up at the perfect time, the only question left is how high his ceiling really is.
