Dax Hill has proven he can wear many hats in the Bengals' secondary, but the versatile defensive back is ready to settle into one role—and he's making a strong case for why that should be at outside cornerback.

Hill's journey in Cincinnati has been anything but straightforward. Drafted as a safety, he opened last season in the slot before shifting to an outside corner role a few weeks into the year. The move paid off: Hill finished 2025 with 88 tackles and an interception, showing he could hold his own on the boundary.

"Staying at one spot, I feel like that's ideal for development and my mental health," Hill said Tuesday, via Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It was challenging at first, but now I'm kind of used to it. But I feel like now I kind of know what I want and I want to do what's best for the team."

For a player entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, consistency is key. Hill's performance this season will directly impact the size of his next contract—whether that comes from the Bengals or another team. With training camp on the horizon, locking in at one position could be the difference between a breakout year and another season of adjustment.

The Bengals' secondary has plenty of talent, but finding the right fit for Hill is crucial. If his late-season surge at outside corner is any indication, the best may be yet to come.
