David Warner questions PSL 'Team of the Year' selections as Babar Azam named captain

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the team on Monday. Babar Azam was named captain after leading Peshawar Zalmi to the title and performing well with the bat.

David Warner, captain of Karachi Kings, has publicly questioned the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 "Team of the Tournament" selections, expressing surprise that no players from his side made the cut. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled the 12-member squad on Monday, naming Babar Azam as captain following his stellar performances and leadership in guiding Peshawar Zalmi to the title.

The selections, determined by a five-member panel from the tournament's commentary group, included three players each from champions Peshawar Zalmi and runners-up Hyderabad Kingsmen, two each from Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, and one each from Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators. Notably, neither Karachi Kings nor the Rawalpindi sides had any representation in the lineup.

Warner took to Instagram to voice his concerns, commenting on the PSL's official post: "Where is Karachi players?" The query came despite Warner himself being Karachi's top run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 256 runs in seven matches at an impressive strike rate of 147.97, including three half-centuries. Fellow Karachi teammate Hasan Ali also enjoyed a standout season, claiming 15 wickets in nine matches to finish among the leading wicket-takers.

The 44-match tournament, held between March 26 and May 3 in Lahore and Karachi, culminated in a thrilling final at Gaddafi Stadium. Peshawar Zalmi defeated Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets to claim their second PSL title, chasing down a target of 130 with 28 balls to spare. Hyderabad had been bowled out for 129 in 18 overs, with Saim Ayub top-scoring with 54. In reply, Zalmi stumbled to 40 for 4 before Aaron Hardie (56 not out) and Abdul Samad combined for a match-winning 85-run partnership.

As cricket fans debate the merits of the selections, Warner's comments highlight the passion and competitive spirit that makes the PSL one of the most exciting leagues in the sport.
