After nine seasons in Cleveland, tight end David Njoku is heading to the West Coast. The former first-round pick has agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, a move that could pay him up to $8 million.
Njoku, who was selected by the Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Miami, became a fan favorite in Cleveland and earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023. His departure didn't go unnoticed—the Browns organization took to Twitter to thank him for his contributions, a classy sendoff for a player who gave his all in the Dawg Pound.
While Njoku didn't suit up for Cleveland's Week 18 win over the Bengals in 2025, he still made a memorable exit from Cincinnati. He left the stadium with a jersey signed by former Browns teammate and Bengals backup quarterback Joe Flacco—a nice keepsake from a fellow veteran who knows a thing or two about changing teams.
Njoku's 2025 season stats tell the story of a reliable target: 33 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games. Against the Bengals specifically, he had three catches for 37 yards in Week 1 and a strong 10-catch, 76-yard performance with a touchdown in October 2024.
For Chargers fans, Njoku brings experience, athleticism, and a proven ability to make plays in the red zone. At 28 years old, he's still in his prime and could be a key piece in Los Angeles' offensive scheme. And for Browns fans? Well, they'll always have that Pro Bowl season and the memories of a tight end who gave Cleveland everything he had.
