When the Los Angeles Rams released their list of undrafted free agent signings, one name stood out for fans who also keep an eye on the NBA: Darryl Peterson III. He's not just any linebacker—he's the older brother of Darryn Peterson, one of the top prospects for the 2026 NBA draft, alongside BYU's AJ Dybantsa.

Darryn's journey has been a rollercoaster. After a season at Kansas where his character and work ethic faced scrutiny due to some unexpected incidents, he silenced critics with a standout performance at the NBA draft combine. It was there that he opened up about his brother's milestone.

"A lot of people don’t know this, but my brother played football at Wisconsin," Darryn shared with Krysten Peek. "He’s a really good football player and he just got signed with the LA Rams. We grew up working and having the same dream, just in different sports. It’s super cool to see him achieve his, and hopefully next month, I’ll achieve mine. Shout out to our parents—they sacrificed so much for us to chase our dreams. Without them, none of this would be possible."

This brotherly double act is historic: according to Peek, Darryl and Darryn will be the first pair of brothers to enter the NFL and NBA in the same calendar year. While Darryn's NBA future likely hinges on the Washington Wizards or Utah Jazz, Darryl is heading to Los Angeles to compete for a roster spot with the Rams.

Darryl, a former Wisconsin linebacker, played all 12 games as a senior, leading the team with 11.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. His efforts earned him honorable mention All-Big Ten honors, even as the Badgers finished 4-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Now, he's trading the Big Ten trenches for the bright lights of the NFL, while his younger brother prepares for the NBA stage. It's a family affair that sports fans—and apparel lovers—won't want to miss.
