Rotherham United may have ended the season with relegation from League One, but one bright spark has emerged from the gloom—Manchester United loanee Dan Gore. The 21-year-old midfielder has been voted the club's standout player by the Rotherham Advertiser, a testament to his resilience and quality on the pitch.
Gore's journey has been anything but smooth. Rising through the ranks at Carrington alongside fellow United starlet Kobbie Mainoo, the duo played a pivotal role in securing the 2022 FA Youth Cup. But while Mainoo's star has soared at Old Trafford, Gore's path has been paved with setbacks—a series of injury-hit loan moves that tested his resolve.
His first taste of senior football came in September 2023, when he impressed Erik ten Hag enough to earn a debut in the EFL Cup against Crystal Palace. A brief Premier League appearance followed later that season, a late cameo in a win over Aston Villa. But Gore needed regular minutes to develop, so he headed to Port Vale for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign. Disaster struck on his debut—a quad injury that required surgery and wiped out his summer.
That setback delayed his next move. It wasn't until the winter transfer window that he joined Rotherham United on a six-month loan, only for more injuries to limit him to just three League One appearances. Determined to turn the page, Gore returned to Rotherham last summer for a full season—and this time, fortune finally smiled on him.
Injury-free for the first time in years, the talented midfielder became a linchpin for the Millers. He made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and adding three assists. More importantly, his consistent performances won over the Rotherham faithful, who saw a player with the grit and skill to dictate games from midfield.
For a player who has battled through adversity, this recognition feels well-earned. As he heads back to Manchester United with a year left on his contract, Gore has shown that when fit, he has the quality to shine—and perhaps, one day, make his mark at Old Trafford.
