Dame Laura Davies has suggested whether she believes Shane Lowry is likely to win another major during his career after some difficult finishes on the PGA Tour this season. Lowry proved that he has the ability to step up on the biggest of occasions last year at the Ryder Cup, with the Irishman holing the putt that ensured that Europe would be taking the trophy home with them.

Dame Laura Davies has weighed in on whether Shane Lowry can add another major to his resume, offering a vote of confidence despite a season marked by near-misses and frustrating finishes. The Irishman, who captured the 2019 Open Championship, has shown flashes of brilliance—most notably holing the decisive putt to secure Europe's Ryder Cup victory last year—but his individual performances have raised questions.

This season, Lowry has struggled to close out tournaments. He faltered down the stretch at the Cognizant Classic and let the Dubai Invitational slip through his fingers. Missed cuts at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship followed, and for the second consecutive year, he failed to break 80 on Sunday at The Masters—despite starting the final round just two shots behind leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young.

Since his top-five finish at The Masters in 2022, Lowry hasn't cracked the top five in any major. Yet, speaking on Sky Sports, Davies—a seven-time major winner herself—remains bullish on the 39-year-old's potential. "If he doesn't win another major, I'll be very surprised, and I think he would be too," she said. "He has to get over the little hump of not winning from very strong positions. He needs to post a number that the leaders can't reach at some point. It could be this week. Who knows? He could get the job done, but this job is very difficult. Scottie Scheffler makes it look too easy—it really is not."

Lowry's confidence has taken a hit after a series of tough results. Despite ranking 55th on the PGA Tour for final-round scoring average this year, that number got a boost from his closing 65 at the Cadillac Championship. After his opening round at the PGA Championship, Lowry admitted he wasn't feeling his best—but with Davies' endorsement and a game built for the biggest stages, the question isn't whether he has the talent, but whether he can overcome the mental hurdles that have tripped him up.
