One of the best defensemen remaining in the portal is now locked up, going from his previous home at Lindenwood now to Lake Superior State.
Nolan Seed, a 23-year-old from Newboro, Ontario, will spend his senior year with the Lakers after skating in all 30 games with Lindenwood last year, notching 19 assists and 22 points over that span.
He is easily one of the best finds in the independent realm, after receiving the D-I Independent Defender of the Year accolade, also specifically D-I Independent Defender of the Month back in November, scoring his only three goals of the season during that month.
Seed spent his first two collegiate years in Canada with Carleton, where he won rookie of the year and defenseman of the year while with the Ravens, stationed in the nation’s capital, Ottawa.
Seed will enter as an anchor of a Lakers team that could use it. The 3.36 goals against average for Lake Superior State was 47th in the country among 64 teams, in the lower third of competition.
LSSU finished the 2025-26 season 11-22-3 overall, struggling back at home with a 3-11-2 record inside Taffy Abel Arena.
He can deliver offense as well, being a key part of the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack offense in his final year of juniors, delivering 33 points.
