Lucy Biggs had a shoulder a load last year, but some new weapons have changed things for Cumberland and it showed in a 15-5 win over Burrillville Friday.

Last season, Lucy Biggs had to shoulder the load for Cumberland girls lacrosse. When she scored, they won. When she didn't, well, it usually spelled trouble. But times have changed, and the Clippers are no longer a one-woman show.

Friday's 15-5 demolition of Burrillville proved just how far this team has come. Biggs still shines—she's a Second Team All-State talent with over 40 goals this season—but now she's got company. Freshmen Hadley Henderson and Ella Mancuso have stepped in with game-changing energy, giving Cumberland the kind of depth that turns contenders into champions.

"We came out with consistent passing in the first quarter and barely turned it over," Biggs said. "That momentum carried us through the whole game."

Henderson, who netted four goals in the win, echoed that confidence. "Knowing we can beat a really good team like Burrillville gives us the strength to keep pushing," she said.

Last year, when opponents faceguarded Biggs or threw multiple defenders at her—like Lincoln School did in the Division II semifinals—Cumberland struggled. This season, the story is different. Mancuso popped two goals in the first quarter alone, finishing with three, while Henderson kept the pressure on all game.

The Clippers are still chasing that Division II title, but with a balanced attack and a star who no longer has to do it all alone, they're looking more dangerous than ever. For a team that once lived and died by one player, Friday's win was a statement: Cumberland is built to last.
