Players of both Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) observed a minute’s silence and wore black armbands before the start of their IPL 2026 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday in memory of those who lost their lives in the storms that hit Uttar Pradesh in the last few days. Earlier, LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first against CSK.

In a touching display of solidarity, players from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came together before their IPL 2026 clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. They observed a minute's silence and donned black armbands to honor the victims of the devastating storms that swept through Uttar Pradesh in recent days.

CSK's official social media channels shared the sentiment, posting: "In solidarity and remembrance. Today, we stand together in grief and remembrance, honouring the lives lost in the storms in Uttar Pradesh."

The match itself carried significant weight for both sides. LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first, explaining that the pitch looked "a little tacky." For CSK, a victory would propel them into the top four of the points table and boost their playoff hopes. LSG, already out of playoff contention, are playing for pride and looking to build momentum for the next season.

Pant acknowledged his team's struggles this season, saying, "There is no running away from the way we have played this season. But we have a lot of positives to take. We're a team that runs on trust, and we're looking to give our 200 percent regardless." He added that the squad is already experimenting with combinations for the next campaign.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made two notable changes to his lineup, handing a debut to Australian pacer Spencer Johnson in place of the injured Jamie Overton, while Gurjapneet Singh replaced Akeal Hosein during the bowling innings. Gaikwad noted, "It is a privilege to wear the yellow jersey," reflecting the pride that comes with representing one of the IPL's most successful franchises.

With LSG making three changes—bringing in Akash Singh, Abdul Samad, and Mukul Choudhary—the stage was set for an intense contest that blended competitive spirit with heartfelt remembrance.
