It was a night to forget for Chennai Super Kings' young pacer Anshul Kamboj in Lucknow on Friday, as he found himself on the wrong side of the record books during his team's seven-wicket defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants.
Kamboj's figures of 0/63 in just 2.4 overs now stand as the second-most expensive spell ever bowled by a CSK player in IPL history. The 23-year-old's tough outing saw him concede runs at a staggering rate, with 11 of his 16 deliveries—a whopping 68.75 percent—being smashed for boundaries, including eight sixes.
This unwanted milestone puts Kamboj in elite company for all the wrong reasons. He joins Yash Dayal in the record books for most sixes conceded by a bowler in a single IPL innings. Dayal had previously endured a similar fate against Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad back in 2023.
What makes Kamboj's spell particularly noteworthy is its rarity. He becomes only the second bowler in IPL history to concede over 60 runs while bowling three overs or fewer, with Khaleel Ahmed being the other—having given away 65 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2025.
The carnage reached its peak in the 17th over when LSG's Nicholas Pooran launched four consecutive sixes to seal the chase in style. Kamboj also became the first bowler in IPL history to be hit for four sixes in an over twice in the same game.
For context, among all IPL spells of at least two overs, only Washington Sundar has fared worse in terms of boundary percentage. Sundar's 2024 outing against Delhi Capitals saw 83.33 percent of his deliveries go for boundaries.
While this performance will sting for the young CSK pacer, it serves as a reminder of how unforgiving the IPL can be, especially against power-hitters like Pooran on flat pitches. For CSK fans, it's a tough night that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
