Oneil Cruz hit a two-run home run, Brandon Lowe went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat Tampa Bay 5-1 on Friday night to snap the Ray's six-game win streak. Bubba Chandler (1-1) allowed a run and three hits over six innings. Mason Montgomery, Gregory Soto and Dennis Santana each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

Oneil Cruz launched a two-run homer, and rookie starter Bubba Chandler delivered a commanding six-inning performance as the Pittsburgh Pirates halted the Tampa Bay Rays' six-game winning streak with a decisive 5-1 victory on Friday night.

Cruz's power provided the early spark, but it was a complete team effort that sealed the win. Brandon Lowe contributed significantly, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to fuel the Pirates' offense.

On the mound, Bubba Chandler (1-1) was in control, surrendering just one run on three hits over six strong innings to earn his first major league win. The bullpen trio of Mason Montgomery, Gregory Soto, and Dennis Santana was flawless, each tossing a scoreless inning of relief to slam the door shut.

The Pirates set the tone early, exploiting their season-long strength in the second inning. Marcell Ozuna and Spencer Horwitz each collected three hits, with Horwitz driving in the first run. This inning continues to be a powerhouse for Pittsburgh; they now boast an incredible +22 run differential in the second frame this season, the best mark for any inning by any MLB team.

While Tampa Bay's Nick Martinez (0-1) pitched decently, allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings, the Rays' offense couldn't solve Chandler and the Pirates' relievers. Chandler Simpson scored the lone Rays run after a single and a wild pitch.

The night began with a celebration of recent history, as Pirates ace Paul Skenes was presented with his 2025 National League Cy Young Award by former winner Doug Drabek. The focus now shifts to the present, with Skenes (3-1, 4.00 ERA) scheduled to take the mound Saturday against the Rays' Drew Rasmussen (1-0, 1.13 ERA) in what promises to be a compelling pitching duel for the middle game of the series.
