Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Craig Yeast has stepped down as head football coach at Mercer County High School in Kentucky after four seasons at the helm. The news, confirmed by multiple reports, marks the end of a challenging chapter for the Titans program.

Yeast, who played two seasons in the NFL with the Bengals (1999-2000), compiled a 23-23 record at Mercer County. The 2025 season proved particularly tough, with the Titans finishing 1-10, leading to his resignation. For a program with deep roots in Kentucky high school football, this decision signals a fresh start for both Yeast and the team.

A homegrown talent, Yeast first made his mark at Harrodsburg High School—a school that later consolidated with Mercer County in 2006. He went on to star at the University of Kentucky, where his electrifying play caught the attention of NFL scouts. The Bengals selected him in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft, and he went on to record career highs in 2000 with 24 receptions for 301 yards and seven starts in 15 games.

Beyond the NFL, Yeast enjoyed a four-season stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League, adding a unique international dimension to his gridiron journey. His coaching career has been equally diverse, including stops as offensive coordinator at Marion County High School, head coach at Bryan Station High School, wide receivers coach at Tiffin University, head coach at Fremont Ross High School in Ohio, and head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College.

For fans of high school football and those who follow the path from college star to coach, Yeast's departure from Mercer County is a reminder of the relentless demands of the sideline. As the Titans search for their next leader, Yeast's experience—from the NFL to the CFL to the high school ranks—ensures his next move will be closely watched by the football community.
