In a recent appearance on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show," Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow opened up about the evolving role of legendary catcher Jason Varitek within the organization. The discussion comes nearly two weeks after the Red Sox made headlines by parting ways with longtime manager Alex Cora and several coaching staff members.

While initial reports left some uncertainty about Varitek's status as game planning and run prevention coach, the team has since clarified that the former captain has been reassigned to a new position. Breslow was quick to emphasize Varitek's enduring significance to the franchise.

"Jason Varitek is an incredibly meaningful figure in this organization," Breslow stated. "He's a Red Sox Hall of Famer and legend. All of that praise and admiration is absolutely warranted. It's something that I share. I have tremendous respect for Tek."

The 45-year-old executive, a former MLB pitcher himself, elaborated on what lies ahead for the iconic backstop. "We told him that there is a place in this organization for him for as long as he wants it. The specific details and timeline will remain between us. But he has meant so much to this organization that it's impossible to put that into words appropriately," Breslow added.

Varitek, who retired from playing in March 2012, has been a fixture on Boston's coaching staff since 2021. Known for his leadership behind the plate during the Red Sox's historic 2004 and 2007 World Series championships, his continued presence in the organization is a testament to his lasting impact. For fans and collectors alike, Varitek's legacy remains a cornerstone of Red Sox history—one that continues to inspire both on and off the field.
