The Dallas Cowboys should be interested in an ex-Washington Commanders defender.

The Dallas Cowboys may have addressed their linebacker needs during the 2026 NFL Draft by trading for Dee Brooks, but don't be surprised if they're still looking for more firepower at the position. The latest buzz from Heavy's Sean Deveney has linked the Cowboys to a familiar face—a former Washington Commanders All-Pro linebacker who could bring veteran savvy to the lineup.

"There is no doubt there is concern about the depth at linebacker, and that perhaps a veteran could be the answer," Deveney wrote, highlighting that while a trade for the Dolphins' Jordyn Brooks would be a dream scenario for Dallas, the name on everyone's lips is none other than Bobby Wagner. The 11-time All-Pro, who previously earned a $9.5 million deal with the Commanders, has been a hot topic in Cowboys speculation circles.

Back in late April, Blogging the Boys' Brandon Loree made a strong case for Wagner as the perfect fit for Dallas, pointing to how head coach Brian Schottenheimer has raved about the veteran in the past. And while no deal has materialized yet, Wagner remains one of the top free-agent options at linebacker for the Cowboys as mid-May rolls on.

At 35 years old (turning 36 soon), Wagner is far from a flashy pick—but he's a fundamentally sound, versatile linebacker who can anchor any defense. During his two seasons with the Commanders, he put up impressive numbers: 294 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced forced fumbles in 34 games. That's the kind of production that makes him a valuable asset, especially for a team like the Cowboys looking to shore up their depth.

With Wagner likely not staying on the market much longer, Dallas needs to decide if they're ready to go all-in on the fit. If they're truly fond of what he brings, the time to act is now.
