The Dallas Cowboys were recently linked to a 30-year-old New Orleans Saints star running back.

The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to making headlines during the offseason, and this year is no different. The team has been named a top landing spot for a five-time Pro Bowl running back with an eye-popping 87 career touchdowns—a potential game-changer for a backfield that could use a little more star power.

Let's be clear: the Cowboys' running back room isn't a disaster. Javonte Williams had a breakout 2025-26 season, finishing top-10 in carries (No. 10), rushing yards (No. 9), and touchdowns (No. 8). But beyond him, the depth chart gets thin fast. The next running back in line managed just 52 carries last season—one less than quarterback Dak Prescott—and only 250 rushing yards, which was a mere 73 yards more than Prescott himself. That's a red flag for any team with playoff aspirations.

Enter Alvin Kamara. The 30-year-old New Orleans Saints star has been a dual-threat weapon for years, and Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes Dallas could be the perfect fit. "While Kamara is on the roster now, that could change after June 1," Knox wrote. "After that date, the Saints would save $456,741 in cap space by trading him. Moving him before June 1 would cost $7.6 million in additional 2026 cap space."

Kamara's 2025-26 numbers—131 carries for 471 yards and one rushing touchdown, plus 33 catches for 186 yards and zero receiving scores—were the worst of his career. But don't let that fool you. This is still one of the most elusive and versatile backs in the league, a player who can change the complexion of an offense with his ability to catch passes out of the backfield and make defenders miss in open space.

Pairing Kamara with Williams would give the Cowboys one of the most dynamic running back duos in the NFL. And while Kamara has recently expressed excitement about teaming up with Travis Etienne in New Orleans, that doesn't mean a blockbuster deal is off the table. The Saints are likely to listen to offers after June 1, when the cap hit of moving him becomes more manageable.

For the Cowboys, it's a matter of convincing New Orleans to let go. If they succeed, don't be surprised to see Kamara in a star-studded uniform next season, ready to reignite his career in Dallas.
