Even though the NFL Draft has wrapped up, the Dallas Cowboys shouldn't be done adding talent—and one veteran defender could be the perfect fit for their roster.
Blogging the Boys' Brandon Loree recently floated the idea of the Cowboys pursuing former Washington Commanders starting linebacker Bobby Wagner, calling it a "perfect match for both sides."
Wagner, who signed a one-year deal with Washington last summer, remains unsigned this offseason. At 35 years old, the Utah State product is coming off another impressive campaign, recording 162 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Commanders in Year 14. Over his storied career with the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and Washington, Wagner has amassed 2,000 total tackles—a testament to his elite upper-body strength and technical mastery at the position.
While the Cowboys made a savvy move trading for Dee Winters during the draft, that shouldn't stop them from taking a serious look at Wagner. His ability to wrap up ball carriers and pressure the quarterback would bring veteran stability to a young linebacker room, especially under new defensive schemes.
With free agency still open, Dallas has a golden opportunity to add a future Hall of Famer who can still produce at a high level. For a team looking to stay competitive in the NFC East, Wagner's experience and leadership could be the missing piece.
