The Cowboys are pretty set on special teams.

Trent Sieg may not be a household name, but for Dallas Cowboys fans who appreciate the finer points of special teams, he's been a quiet cornerstone since 2023. Entering the 2026 season, the long snapper remains a rock-solid part of a specialist trio that includes kicker Brandon Aubrey and punter Bryan Anger—arguably one of the best groups in the league.

Sieg's path to Dallas wasn't a straight line. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens, but early struggles saw him lose a competition to veteran Morgan Cox and get cut at final roster reductions. A stroke of luck came when the Las Vegas Raiders needed a replacement after their long snapper, Andrew DePaola, went down with a season-ending injury in Week 1. Sieg stepped in seamlessly, held the job for the rest of the year, and kept it for four more seasons. Working under former Cowboys special teams coach Rich Bisaccia, he built a reputation as one of the league's most reliable snappers.

When Dallas needed a new long snapper in 2023, Sieg was a natural target. The Cowboys had been spoiled for decades by L.P. Ladouceur, who held the team record for most consecutive games and most seasons played before retiring after 2020. His replacement, Jake McQuaide, performed well in 2021 but was lost to injury just four games into 2022. At just 28 years old and with plenty of prime years ahead, Sieg was an easy choice to fill the void.

Three seasons later, Sieg has more than justified that decision. He consistently grades out among the NFL's best at his position, doing the dirty work that helps Anger earn a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 and Aubrey become one of the league's most prolific kickers. If not for his active social media presence, most Cowboys fans wouldn't know his name—and for a long snapper, that's the highest compliment. The only time they make headlines is when something goes wrong, and Sieg has made sure that's rare. Quietly, expertly, he's been exactly what Dallas needed.
