Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs recently extended an offer to a 2027 quarterback that's committed to an SEC rival. The Bulldogs, however, are hoping to flip the talented recruit.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are making a bold move in the recruiting world, extending a scholarship offer to a 2027 quarterback who is already committed to an SEC rival. But the young signal-caller's response might not sit well with the Georgia head coach.

Earlier this week, the Bulldogs offered three-star quarterback Derrick Baker, a 6-foot-1, 226-pound prospect from Alpharetta, GA. Baker has been committed to the Tennessee Vols since February, putting Georgia in a familiar position—trying to flip a talented recruit from a conference foe.

While Baker isn't currently rated among the elite prospects in his class, the buzz around him is growing fast. On3's Cody Bellaire recently described him as a player with the potential to be one of the "biggest risers in the country." After watching Baker at the Under Armour Atlanta camp, Bellaire was impressed by his college-ready frame and arm strength.

"He's college-ready right now from a physical and athletic perspective," Bellaire wrote in March. "At 6'1, 220-plus pounds, Baker looks the part of a college linebacker more than a quarterback. But don't get it twisted—Baker has the arm talent and accuracy to throw with the best of the best. He's extremely comfortable throwing on the run and can layer the football into tight windows. If he carries his camp performance onto the field on Friday nights, he has a chance to be one of the biggest risers in the country."

When Baker spoke to 247Sports about Georgia's offer, his response was clear—and not what Kirby Smart wanted to hear. "I'm probably not going anywhere," Baker said, reaffirming his commitment to Tennessee. He added that his only scheduled official visit is with the Vols in June, signaling that Georgia has a steep hill to climb if they want to sway him.

For Bulldogs fans, this is a reminder that flipping a committed recruit is never easy—especially when the player is already locked in with an SEC rival. But with Baker's stock on the rise, don't be surprised if Georgia keeps the pressure on as the recruiting cycle heats up.
