The 2026 NFL Draft is just days away, and for the New York Giants, holding the fifth overall pick is a golden opportunity to land a franchise-changing talent. While mock drafts have painted a clear picture of the top prospects, history tells us the draft is never that predictable. A surprise trade or a shocking selection is always in play, and this year might be no different.
On the latest episode of the Breaking Big Blue podcast, ESPN's Jordan Raanan and NFL analyst Peter Schrager dove deep into the Giants' options. The conventional wisdom points to four main targets at No. 5: Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, Miami offensive tackle Francis Maiugoa, or Ohio State defensive standouts Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles.
However, Schrager introduced a fascinating wrinkle that could shake up the first round. He highlighted the exceptional depth of this year's wide receiver class, suggesting as many as six could be selected within the first 15 picks. While Ohio State's Carnell Tate is the consensus top receiver and may be gone by pick five, a second tier of elite pass-catchers waits in the wings.
This group includes Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, USC's Makai Lemon, Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr., Texas A&M's KC Concepcion, and Washington's Denzel Boston. The order in which these players come off the board is one of the draft's biggest mysteries. But Schrager dropped a bombshell for Giants fans, stating, "I wouldn't cross off Jordyn Tyson as a possibility to the Giants at five."
Selecting Tyson at No. 5 would undoubtedly be a curveball, but it speaks to the Giants' potential desire to finally secure a true alpha wide receiver. In a league where explosive offenses reign supreme, adding a dynamic weapon like Tyson could be the bold move that reshapes their future. As draft night approaches, all options—even the unexpected ones—seem to be firmly on the table for Big Blue.
