When it comes to finding value in the Preakness Stakes, few trainers command as much attention as Dallas Stewart. Known for pulling off massive upsets in Triple Crown races, Stewart has a history of turning longshots into contenders. Think Macho Again (40-1) in the 2008 Preakness, Golden Soul (35-1) in the 2013 Kentucky Derby, Commanding Curve (38-1) in the 2014 Derby, and Tale of Verve (29-1) in the 2015 Preakness. Each of those horses finished second, proving that Stewart knows how to get the most out of an underdog.

So when you see his latest charge, Corona de Oro, listed at 30-1 for Saturday's 151st Preakness Stakes, don't be too quick to write him off. This colt isn't your typical longshot. In fact, his career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 92 is better than six other horses in this 14-horse field. That same 92 Beyer also ties him with Taj Mahal and Chip Honcho, both of whom are listed at 5-1 on the morning line.

So why the long odds? It mostly comes down to his recent form. Corona de Oro is coming off a third-place finish in the Lexington Stakes, an effort that lost some luster when the winner of that race, Trendsetter, could only manage third in the Peter Pan Stakes. Additionally, his two best performances came with the help of the diuretic medication Lasix, which he won't have on Saturday. And while he's shown speed by setting moderate fractions in his last two starts, this Preakness field is loaded with horses that love to run on or near the lead.

Still, with a trainer like Stewart in his corner and a post position that should allow him to settle into a comfortable rhythm, Corona de Oro is the kind of horse that could surprise a lot of people. If you're looking for a longshot with a puncher's chance, this colt might just be your ticket to a big payday.
