Union, KY – The Cooper Jaguars have found their new leader. On Friday, the football program officially announced the hiring of Adam Begley as the next head varsity football coach, stepping in for the legendary Randy Borchers, who resigned in mid-April after a storied tenure.
“Cooper High School is excited to announce Adam Begley as the next Head Varsity Football Coach of the Jaguars football program,” the school’s statement read. “Coach Begley brings a strong background in leadership, player development, and community involvement, having coached at the youth, middle school, freshman, and varsity levels since 2014.”
Begley isn’t just a coach—he’s a builder. As a founder and former director of the local youth football organization, he’s been instrumental in shaping the Cooper football pipeline from the ground up. Most recently serving as the freshman head coach and assistant varsity offensive line coach, he’s known for instilling discipline, accountability, and a growth mindset in his players. But his leadership experience doesn’t stop on the field. With 25 years in the fire service, Begley brings a unique blend of high-pressure decision-making, personnel management, and community-first values to the Jaguars’ sideline.
“He is known for his emphasis on discipline, accountability, and developing young men through the game of football,” the statement continued. “Coach Begley looks forward to building a program rooted in toughness, consistency, and community pride while continuing to strengthen the tradition of Cooper football.”
Begley takes the reins from Borchers, who leaves behind a legacy of winning. Over nearly two decades, Borchers guided Cooper to four regional titles and four district championships, amassing 118 career wins. The Jaguars finished the 2025 season with a solid 9-5 record, ranking 22nd in the final Kentucky Massey Rankings.
Located in Union, Kentucky, Cooper High School is known for its strong academic programs and active student body. The school’s commitment to a well-rounded education—blending academics, extracurriculars, and athletics—makes it a natural fit for a coach who values character as much as competition. With Begley at the helm, the Jaguars are poised to build on that tradition, one snap at a time.
