Castleford Tigers are making waves in the rugby league world, and head coach Ryan Carr couldn't be more thrilled about their latest acquisition. Carr has hailed the signing of Australian star Damien Cook as the "perfect fit" for the Super League club, with the veteran hooker set to bring a wealth of experience and a chance to cap off an illustrious career in style.

Cook, who joins from NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons, will link up with the Tigers for the 2027 season. The 34-year-old is no stranger to the big stage—he's donned the green and gold for Australia in four Tests, represented New South Wales in 17 State of Origin clashes, and racked up an impressive 248 NRL appearances. For Carr, who previously worked with Cook as an assistant coach at the Dragons, this signing ticks every box.

"Cookie fits everything we're trying to do here," Carr told BBC Radio Leeds. "His experience, his leadership, his quality of play—it's all there. He's a great person on and off the field, and having known him for a long time, I'm super excited to get him here."

Carr emphasized that Cook's character is just as important as his on-field prowess. "He's got a lovely wife and kids, and his values are really strong. He's played State of Origin, Grand Finals, Test matches for Australia—he's seen the game from every angle. I know he can come over here and finish off the legacy he's built in rugby league."

The Tigers aren't stopping with Cook either. Samoan centre Mat Feagai could be the next to make the move from the Dragons, and Carr hinted at more additions to come. "We're trying to find the right people and go after them early," he said. "We've got a small squad at the moment, and we want to build depth to around 30 players. There'll be many signings."

For Castleford fans, the message is clear: big things are on the horizon, and Cook's arrival is just the beginning of a new chapter.
