As the NHL playoffs loom, the Edmonton Oilers are getting a potentially seismic boost. Star forward Leon Draisaitl, sidelined since mid-March with a lower-body injury, is pushing hard for a first-round return, and his captain couldn't be more supportive.

Connor McDavid recently lauded Draisaitl's "difference maker" mentality, emphasizing the German's intense dedication to returning at peak form. "He looks amazing... really, really, really strong," McDavid stated after the Oilers' regular-season finale. "It's a credit to him for wanting to be there, wanting to be a difference maker, and he will be."

Draisaitl's anticipated return is a game-changer for Edmonton. Despite playing only 65 games, he racked up 97 points this season, a testament to his elite two-way impact. His comeback would provide a critical jolt of scoring, playmaking, and veteran poise just as the intensity ratchets up.

The Oilers head into the postseason with clear strengths and questions. They closed the year with a dominant 6-1 win over Vancouver, fueled by McDavid's league-leading 138th point. The offense, powered by the league's best power play, remains fearsome. However, defensive consistency will be key to a deep run.

For McDavid and the Oilers, past playoff heartbreak fuels current belief. "We feel pretty good about having that skill, having been there and won a lot of playoff games," McDavid said. Adding a healthy, motivated Draisaitl to that equation makes Edmonton a team no one will want to face. The quest for the Cup is on, and a key piece is nearly back in the lineup.
