The NFL offseason is heating up, and one of the biggest storylines revolves around a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who just hit the open market. The New England Patriots recently released veteran star Stefon Diggs, and several playoff contenders are already being linked to the 32-year-old pass-catcher.
Diggs, who signed a massive $63 million contract during his time with the Buffalo Bills, is now looking for a new home after the Patriots decided to move in a different direction. While New England is still the most logical destination—especially given the mutual interest between both sides—the team's pursuit of Eagles superstar A.J. Brown could change everything.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, if the Patriots successfully land Brown in a trade, Diggs becomes a hot commodity for other teams. Among the most likely suitors are the Washington Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Rams. Breer suggests Diggs could command a one-year deal in the $10 million range, making him an affordable yet elite option for teams looking to bolster their passing attacks.
The Commanders make sense on multiple levels. Diggs is a D.C. native, and with Deebo Samuel's future in Washington uncertain, pairing Terry McLaurin with a proven veteran like Diggs would give the Commanders one of the more dynamic wide receiver duos in the NFC. For a team looking to take the next step, adding a player of Diggs' caliber could be the missing piece.
Then there's Kansas City, where the wide receiver room has been described as "average" at best. The Chiefs desperately need to give Patrick Mahomes more reliable weapons, and Diggs would immediately become the team's most accomplished pass-catcher. His route-running precision and ability to create separation would be a perfect fit in Andy Reid's offense.
The Rams are an interesting wild card. While Los Angeles already boasts Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, adding Diggs to that mix would create arguably the most formidable receiving trio in the league. However, with cap space always a concern in LA, this might be a long shot unless the team gets creative with contract structures.
Of course, all of this hinges on where A.J. Brown lands. The 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars are also in the mix for the Eagles' star, meaning New England might not be the only team reshaping its receiver room this summer. Either way, one thing is clear: Stefon Diggs will have no shortage of options when he decides where to play next season.
