Charles Omenihu may be new to the Washington Commanders, but he's already wasting no time playing the role of recruiter. On Tuesday, two high-profile NFL veterans received favorable legal updates, potentially clearing the path for them to join a new team for the 2026 season—and Omenihu is making sure the Commanders are at the top of their list.
First up is veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs. The 32-year-old is a DMV native and a four-time Pro Bowler who just wrapped up another 1,000-yard season. Diggs was recently cleared of all charges related to an alleged incident involving his former personal chef, and the Commanders have been floated as a potential landing spot. After the news broke, Diggs took to Instagram with a message that spoke for itself: "This is not an opinion-based sport, so here are the numbers. I played 52% of the snaps and finished with 85 catches for 1,045 yards coming off an ACL."
Several NFL players chimed in, but Omenihu's response stood out—he was clearly recruiting Diggs to Washington. And it makes sense. All offseason, the Commanders have been linked to receiver help. They made runs at Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs before eventually re-signing Dyami Brown and adding veteran Van Jefferson. They also used a third-round pick on wideout Antonio Williams. While Brandon Aiyuk remains connected to Washington in rumors, he's still with the 49ers with no clear timetable for a move.
If the Commanders are still looking to bolster their receiving corps, Diggs on a one-year deal feels like a natural fit. He and Omenihu may have never shared a locker room, but as longtime NFL veterans, there's plenty of mutual respect between them.
The other free agent making headlines is cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, who actually played alongside Omenihu with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. Sneed also received good legal news this week. The former Chief was released by the Tennessee Titans after two injury-marred seasons that saw him play just 12 games. Omenihu wasted no time sharing Sneed's update on his own Instagram—another clear sign he's working behind the scenes to bring familiar talent to Washington's secondary.
With the Commanders still needing help at cornerback, Sneed could be a low-risk, high-reward addition. And with Omenihu leading the charge, the Commanders' offseason just got a lot more interesting.
