Let's take a closer look at Colts' UDFA LB Tahj Chambers and why he could make a roster push this summer.

Every NFL offseason brings a wave of undrafted free agents hoping to defy the odds, and for the Indianapolis Colts, linebacker Tahj Chambers is one name to watch closely this summer. After the 2026 NFL Draft, the Colts signed 12 UDFAs, and Chambers brings an intriguing mix of experience, athleticism, and special teams value that could help him carve out a roster spot.

Chambers spent four seasons at Missouri State before making the jump to the SEC in 2026, where he played a rotational role with 380 snaps. In coverage, he held opponents to a modest 8.8 yards per catch and forced two pass breakups, with quarterbacks posting a below-average 86.6 passer rating when targeting him. His run defense graded well by PFF's metrics, and he generated nine pressures as a blitzer. Perhaps most importantly, Chambers is a seasoned special teams contributor with 614 career snaps at the college level—a critical factor for any UDFA hoping to stick on a 53-man roster.

His athletic profile backs up the potential. Chambers posted a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 7.07 out of 10.00, ranking 1,014 out of 3,460 linebackers since 1987. That blend of speed and experience didn't go unnoticed by the Colts' front office. During rookie minicamp, assistant GM Ed Dodds highlighted Chambers alongside fellow UDFA linebacker West Weeks, saying, "Kinda excited about that linebacker room—with Weeks and Tahj Chambers both."

The Colts have reshuffled their linebacker corps this offseason, signing veteran Akeem Davis-Gaither and drafting CJ Allen and Bryce Boettcher. But with uncertainty surrounding the depth at the back end of the position group, there's a real opportunity for a player like Chambers to make a push. If he can hold his own defensively during training camp and the preseason, his speed and special teams savvy could be the edge he needs to secure one of the final spots on the Colts' 53-man roster.
