The Indianapolis Colts have officially parted ways with veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II, releasing the 30-year-old Pro Bowler on Thursday. The move comes nearly a month after Moore told General Manager Chris Ballard that it was "time for a change" as he prepared for his 10th NFL season.

Moore's journey with the Colts began as an undrafted free agent in 2017, just weeks before the regular season, after being cut by the New England Patriots. He quickly made an impact, starting five games as a rookie and becoming a cornerstone of the Colts' secondary. By his fifth season in 2021, Moore had racked up 14 interceptions and earned a Pro Bowl nod, establishing himself as one of the league's premier slot corners.

Over the years, Moore twice reset the market for nickel cornerbacks with contract extensions in Indianapolis. His most recent deal, a three-year, $30 million contract signed in March 2024, was set to run through the 2025 season. However, with Moore set to earn a $9.49 million base salary this year—plus up to $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses, none of which was guaranteed—the Colts opted to release him and free up significant cap space.

Financially, the move saves the Colts $7.06 million against the 2025 salary cap while leaving $6.05 million in dead money. Indianapolis already held roughly $26 million in cap space ahead of the draft, so this release gives the front office even more flexibility to address other roster needs. The cap impact for 2026 will include the remaining prorated signing bonus money already paid to Moore.

For Colts fans, Moore's departure marks the end of an era. He was not only a standout on the field but also a team captain and a leader in the locker room and community. As the team looks to the future, this move reshapes the depth chart at cornerback and opens the door for younger players to step up in the secondary.
