When your secondary ranks 31st in passing yards allowed, the math is simple: get to the quarterback faster. For the Indianapolis Colts, that equation starts with Laiatu Latu.
The 2024 first-round pick is entering his third NFL season with a chip on his shoulder and a new physique. After posting 8.5 sacks last year—a solid but not spectacular number—defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo believes the best is yet to come. And he's not being shy about it.
"Without a doubt, he'll get to 10 sacks this year," Anarumo said in a recent interview. "He was on his way to 10-plus last season. Now he's stronger, more developed, and completely dialed in."
Anarumo highlighted a specific area of growth for the pass rusher. "He's not built like a typical defensive end. Great lower body, strong—but his upper body wasn't as developed. He's done a fantastic job getting stronger over his career. He's a jack of all trades, always working, always thinking team first."
The Colts clearly agree with that assessment. This offseason, they've added edge rushers Arden Key, Micheal Clemons, fifth-round pick George Gumbs, and sixth-rounder Caden Curry to the rotation. But all eyes remain on Latu to be the engine that drives a more aggressive, more disruptive defense in 2026.
For a team desperate to flip that 31st-ranked passing defense, a double-digit sack season from their young star isn't just a hope—it might be a necessity.
