In a heartwarming nod to his roots, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson recently received one of the highest honors a high school athlete can achieve: his jersey number was officially retired at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida.

During his four-year tenure with the Rams, Richardson put up eye-popping numbers that cemented his legacy as one of the school's all-time greats. He threw for 4,633 yards and 37 touchdowns, but it was his dual-threat ability that truly set him apart—he also rushed for 1,633 yards and an incredible 41 touchdowns on the ground. That kind of production doesn't come around often, and Eastside High made sure to recognize it.

After graduating, Richardson took his talents to the University of Florida, where he continued to impress before being selected fourth overall by the Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft. Now, with his high school jersey hanging in the rafters, he's reflecting on the moment with genuine gratitude.

"It doesn't feel real that they just retired my jersey," Richardson shared on his Instagram account. "I'm so thankful."

The ceremony comes at an interesting time in Richardson's professional career. Following the Colts' decision to make Daniel Jones their starting quarterback last season—and subsequently re-signing him in free agency—Richardson's future with the team has been a topic of speculation. Trade rumors have swirled, and unless a deal materializes before training camp, he's expected to compete with Riley Leonard for the backup role.

But for now, the focus is on celebration. Regardless of what happens next in the NFL, Richardson will always be a legend at Eastside High—and that's a legacy no trade can touch.
