The Washington Huskies delivered a statement win on Thursday night, stunning the No. 1 UCLA Bruins with a dominant 8-0 shutout. It's the second time this season the Huskies have knocked off a top-ten opponent, and they did it in style.

Designated hitter Colton Bower was the star of the show, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and a triple. He drove in three runs and scored three times, putting on a power display that had the crowd buzzing. Right fielder Braeden Terry also came up big, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a key run-scoring single during a five-run fifth inning that broke the game open.

Third baseman Blake Wilson chipped in with two doubles and a run scored, but the real story was the Washington pitching staff. They completely shut down UCLA's offense—the second-highest scoring unit in the Big Ten—holding the Bruins to just three hits. It was only the second conference loss of the season for UCLA, and it came in emphatic fashion.

Starter Jackson Thomas turned in a gritty performance, working six innings while allowing three hits and four walks, striking out two to improve to 2-4 on the year. Gunnar Nichols then took over and locked things down, pitching three scoreless innings with three strikeouts and just one walk to seal the victory.

The Huskies' pitchers also handled UCLA's shortstop Roch Cholowsky, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout, a rare quiet night for the superstar. Right fielder Payton Brennan managed two of UCLA's three hits, including a single and a triple, but it wasn't nearly enough.

On the mound for UCLA, Wylan Moss—another projected first-round pick—took his first loss of the season, falling to 5-1. He worked 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

With the win, Washington improves to 23-29 overall and 12-16 in Big Ten play. The Huskies will look to take the series on Friday, May 15, with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. PT.
