The Colorado Buffaloes are keeping their prime-time swagger—and the national spotlight is locked in once again. The Buffs' 2026 season opener against Georgia Tech has been bumped up to Thursday, September 3rd, with a 6:00 PM MT kickoff that will air live on ESPN. It's a primetime statement for a program that's become appointment viewing under head coach Deion Sanders.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Colorado has had a game selected during the annual television Upfront presentations, and it's no surprise given the Coach Prime effect. The opener against the Yellow Jackets will be the 24th time in the last 26 games that CU has landed on ESPN or a major broadcast network (ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, or TNT). Factor in appearances on ESPN2 and FS1, and the Buffs have been on national television for 26 straight games—and an impressive 35 of 38 games since Sanders took over.

There's more than just TV ratings at stake here. Georgia Tech handed Colorado a 27-20 loss at Folsom Field last season, so the Buffs will head to Atlanta with revenge on their minds in the second leg of this home-and-home series. The stage is set for a Thursday night showdown that promises intensity from the opening snap.

While the on-field results have been a mixed bag during the Sanders era, the television draw has been one of the most consistent aspects of this program's resurgence. The move to Thursday night marks the third straight season that Colorado's season opener has been shifted off a Saturday, giving fans a midweek dose of Buffaloes football under the lights.

Looking ahead, the 2026 schedule won't be a walk in the park. Colorado faces early road tests against Power Four opponents and multiple matchups against elite Big 12 teams. But for now, all eyes are on that Thursday night opener—a chance for the Buffs to start the season with a statement win and keep the national audience tuned in.
