Colorado basketball's rebuild has been centered around its front court, already adding forward Justin Neely, and that continued on Thursday with the commitment of transfer forward David Gomez.

Gomez, a 6-foot-9 and 235-pound forward, only played two games for the Charlotte 49ers last year, averaging five points and three and a half rebounds in two mid-November contests. Before his time at Charlotte, Gomez played for Hestia Monorca, a club team in his home country of Spain, where he averaged four points and three rebounds in 16 minutes per game.

Growing up in Sevilla, Spain, Gomez also had the honor of representing the nation at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket and helped Spain win gold in the 2023 U19 World Cup.

While Gomez's game might be a tad bit unrefined heading to Boulder, what he does bring is more size to the Buffs' front court, which they desperately lacked last season. Alongside Neely, a prolific scorer, Gomez could settle into a distributor and glass-cleaning role for Colorado.

Head coach Tad Boyle targeted several overseas stars last year, bringing in Alon Michaeli from Israel and center Leonardo Van Elswyk. That trend appears to continue with Gomez, whose experience in big moments overseas will help him settle into the Big 12 Conference atmosphere as well.
