CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein argues that Duke and UConn are the only blue-blood programs left in college basketball.

In the ever-evolving landscape of college basketball, the debate over which programs truly qualify as "blue bloods" rages on. While traditional powerhouses like Indiana and UCLA have seen their luster fade in recent decades, a new hierarchy is emerging—and CBS Sports analyst Jon Rothstein has a bold take on who sits at the top.

According to Rothstein, only two programs remain that operate with the consistent excellence and tradition of true blue bloods: Duke and UConn. "There are two programs in college basketball that are still operating as traditional Blue Bloods," Rothstein declared. "It's UConn and Duke. It's Duke and UConn. And that is reiterated when you really dissect the rosters of the other Blue Blood programs in college basketball."

To back up his claim, Rothstein put three other perennial contenders—Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina—under the microscope. Using his daily-updated "Rothstein 45" roster rankings, he highlighted how these storied programs currently stack up. "As of today, Kentucky's ranked 40th, Kansas is ranked 30th, and North Carolina is ranked 26th," he noted. "Of those three rosters right now, Carolina has the best roster."

It's a take that's sure to spark heated debates among fans of the Tar Heels, Jayhawks, and Wildcats, who have long considered their programs among the elite. But for now, Rothstein's analysis suggests that the blue-blood mantle belongs solely to Duke and UConn—two programs that continue to set the standard in college basketball, both on the court and in the recruiting trail.
