The town of Utrera has unanimously approved plans to rename its municipal stadium after former Arsenal forward José Antonio Reyes, seven years after his tragic death in a traffic accident. The decision, passed during the April plenary session of Seville City Council, will see the current Municipal Stadium of Vistalegre transformed into the José Antonio Reyes Calderón Municipal Stadium—a fitting tribute that ensures the beloved player's name remains permanently linked to his birthplace.

This heartfelt honor goes beyond a simple name change. The local authority will also update the municipal inventory and install an identification plaque at the stadium, with plans for a special tribute ceremony attended by Reyes' family and close friends. It's a powerful reminder of how deeply sports figures can impact their communities, even years after their passing.

For Arsenal fans, Reyes holds a special place in the club's modern history. The Spanish winger joined the Gunners from Sevilla's academy and became an integral part of the legendary "Invincibles" squad that won the Premier League unbeaten in the 2003/04 season. His time at Arsenal also included an FA Cup triumph, cementing his legacy in North London.

Reyes' illustrious career spanned some of the biggest clubs in Spain and Europe, including stints at Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Benfica, Espanyol, Extremadura, and Córdoba CF. Now, his hometown ensures that his name will live on, inspiring future generations of footballers who take to the pitch at the stadium that bears his name.
