LOS ANGELES -- The Clippers received a major boost to their offseason plans Sunday when the franchise officially secured the No.

The Los Angeles Clippers just got a massive win—and it's not even the playoffs yet. Sunday's NBA Draft Lottery delivered a huge boost to the franchise's offseason plans, as the Clippers officially secured the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Here's how it happened: The pick originally belonged to the Indiana Pacers, landing in L.A.'s hands as part of February's blockbuster trade. In that deal, the Clippers sent center Ivica Zubac and forward Kobe Brown to Indiana, receiving guard Bennedict Mathurin, center Isaiah Jackson, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, and this conditional 2026 first-round selection.

The lottery drama was real. The Pacers entered the night tied for the best odds at the No. 1 overall pick (14%), but they didn't crack the top four. That meant the selection conveyed to Los Angeles at No. 5. Had Indiana landed inside the top four, the Clippers would have received the Pacers' unprotected 2031 first-round pick instead—a much longer wait for a potential payoff.

The Washington Wizards won the lottery and grabbed the No. 1 overall pick for the first time since selecting John Wall in 2010. The Utah Jazz will pick second, followed by the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 3 and the Chicago Bulls at No. 4.

For the Clippers, this is huge. After a 42-40 season that left plenty of questions about the team's long-term direction, landing the No. 5 pick gives L.A. serious flexibility. The franchise now owns three picks in next month's draft—Nos. 5, 36, and 52 overall—which means they can either draft a cornerstone prospect or use the selection as trade bait to upgrade the roster around Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland.

The odds were in L.A.'s favor heading into lottery night—a 47.9% chance of receiving Indiana's pick, including a 27.84% shot at No. 5 overall and a 20.06% chance at No. 6. Instead of settling for a lower slot, the Clippers walked away with their highest draft position in years and a potential building block for the future.

So who could be on the board at No. 5? Several highly regarded prospects are projected as lottery picks in early mock drafts, including Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr., Illinois guard Keaton Wagler, and Houston guard Kingston Flemings. Any of these players could provide an immediate boost to a Clippers squad looking to reload for another playoff push.

The 2026 NBA Draft takes place June 23-24 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. For Clippers fans, this is the most exciting draft positioning the franchise has seen in years—and the perfect time to start thinking about which new star might soon be wearing your team's colors.
