Clemson softball is back in familiar territory—the NCAA Tournament—but this year's path will test their mettle right from the start. The Tigers have been selected as the No. 2 seed in the Athens Regional and will kick off their postseason run against No. 3 seed UNC Greensboro on May 15 at 4:30 p.m. ET, airing live on ACC Network. The action unfolds at Georgia's Jack Turner Softball Stadium, with the Bulldogs holding the No. 10 overall national seed.

This marks Clemson's sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance—a remarkable feat for a program that only missed out during its inaugural season, which was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. While many teams are still finding their footing in year six, Clemson has turned postseason berths into an expectation. The Tigers enter the tournament at 32-20 overall, including a 13-11 record in ACC play. They were the No. 7 seed in the ACC Tournament but fell in their opener to North Carolina, making Selection Sunday a bit more nerve-wracking than Tiger fans might have liked. Still, Clemson's résumé—bolstered by a No. 22 ranking in the D1Softball poll and a No. 24 RPI—proved strong enough to secure a spot in the field.

Standing in their way first is UNC Greensboro, a team riding high at 42-17 after claiming the SoCon Tournament title with a 4-0 shutout of Samford. The Spartans are making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and while this is a matchup Clemson should feel confident about, it's not one where they can afford to take their foot off the gas. The Tigers will need to bring their A-game from the first pitch.

The regional's headliner, however, is Georgia. The Bulldogs are 38-18, ranked No. 12 in the D1Softball poll and No. 11 in RPI. They reached the SEC Tournament semifinals and are powered by first-team All-SEC selections Jaydyn Goodwin and Sarah Gordon. Georgia opens against No. 4 regional seed Charleston, which is making just its second NCAA Tournament appearance after winning its first CAA championship.

For Clemson, all eyes will be on pitcher Sierra Maness and outfielder Taylor Pipkins, both of whom earned third-team All-ACC honors. If the Tigers can channel their experience and rise to the occasion, they have the talent to make noise in this regional. But in tournament play, every pitch counts—and the road to Omaha starts with one game at a time.
