Clemson is making a strong push for one of the most exciting young talents in the 2027 recruiting class. Four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr., out of Collierville High School in Tennessee, has the Tigers firmly in the mix alongside Georgia, Oregon, Florida State, and Arkansas according to 247Sports.
Standing at 6-foot-2.5 and 165 pounds, Walden is ranked as the No. 65 overall player nationally in the 247Sports Composite, the No. 3 athlete, and the No. 4 player in Tennessee. His own 247Sports rankings are even more impressive, placing him at No. 63 overall, No. 3 among athletes, and No. 3 in the Volunteer State.
What makes Walden so intriguing? Nobody is quite sure what position he'll ultimately play at the next level—and that's precisely the appeal. Think of a Travis Hunter-type versatility. According to 247Sports' Andrew Ivins, Walden is a "perimeter playmaker" whose ceiling could be highest at either wide receiver or defensive back. While some prospects get the "athlete" label because coaches aren't sure where to hide them, Walden is the opposite: he can genuinely impact games on both sides of the ball.
His junior season stats back that up. In 2025, Walden hauled in 42 receptions for 912 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging an eye-popping 21.7 yards per catch. On defense, he added 28 tackles, 17 pass breakups, and five interceptions. With his frame, track background, and ability to make plays after the catch, he brings the kind of vertical juice and open-field ability Clemson has been prioritizing at receiver.
His speed is undeniable. As a 10th grader, he ran an 11.53 in the 100-meter dash, and that speed translates directly to the football field. He can get vertical, track deep balls, and turn short passes into big gains with his vision and acceleration. That's exactly the weapon Clemson fans have been craving in the passing game.
While the Tigers are in a strong position, the race is far from over. On3 and Rivals currently give Georgia a slight edge at 20.2 percent, with Clemson right behind at 17.6 percent. Oregon, Auburn, and Ole Miss are also in the picture. This isn't a recruitment Clemson is running away with—but they're very much in the conversation for one of the most dynamic playmakers in the 2027 class.
