After weeks of frustration and sitting near the bottom of the ACC standings, the Clemson Tigers finally found their groove in a big way. On Saturday, Erik Bakich’s squad delivered a season-altering performance, crushing No. 13 Boston College 14-4 in just seven innings at Doug Kingsmore Stadium to even the series.
The game was all but decided before the Eagles even had a chance to settle in. Clemson exploded for an 11-run first inning, sending 16 batters to the plate and collecting eight hits. The Tigers took full advantage of Boston College’s mistakes, drawing three walks and benefiting from two hit batters during the early surge.
The offensive showcase was a masterclass in versatility. Tyler Lichtenberger and Bryce Clavon executed perfect squeeze bunts that turned into runs, while the lineup also flashed power. Nate Savoie highlighted the inning with a three-run homer and later added a double, finishing with two runs scored. Luke Gaffney followed Savoie’s blast with a home run of his own, adding to the cushion. Jason Fultz Jr. and Lichtenberger each drove in two runs, while Tryston McCladdie, Jarren Purify, and Clavon also contributed RBIs.
While the offense grabbed the spotlight, left-hander Michael Sharman handled business on the mound. He worked six strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three to improve to 6-1 this season.
Clemson, now 27-20 overall and 7-16 in conference play, will look to build on this momentum in Sunday’s series finale. First pitch is set for noon, and the Tigers hope this breakout performance is just the spark they need to turn their season around.
