Ciryl Gane believes Tom Aspinall took things too far after their UFC 321 title fight.

In the world of MMA, rivalries often extend far beyond the cage, and the latest chapter between Ciryl Gane and Tom Aspinall is no exception. The French heavyweight contender has fired back at Aspinall, accusing him of overreacting to the controversial eye poke that ended their UFC 321 title fight last October.

Gane challenged Aspinall for the heavyweight crown, but the bout was ruled a no contest after an accidental eye poke left the British champion unable to continue. Aspinall suffered damage to both eyes, requiring surgery, and has yet to be cleared for sparring. Since then, Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) has been vocal, labeling Gane a "cheater" and a "dirty fighter" on multiple occasions.

But Gane (13-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) isn't backing down. In a recent interview with RMC Sports Combat, he criticized Aspinall's handling of the situation. "His communication strategy was really bad," Gane said. "He's signed with an agency now, and I hope they help him with his communication because it was catastrophic. Sometimes, it's better not to say anything. These things happen. You don't need to overdo it or exaggerate it. The guy was acting like he couldn't even drive anymore."

Gane went on to say that Aspinall's relentless accusations only hurt his own credibility. "He said so many things and spent so much time trying to accuse me of who knows what. Even his own fans must have been thinking, 'Wow, man, that's enough. Relax.' These things happen in the cage. We've got your back, but you should calm down a bit."

For Gane, the social media storm was nothing more than background noise. "I wasn't affected at all. Social media is secondary," he added, showing the calm confidence that has made him a fan favorite.

Looking ahead, Gane is set to face Alex Pereira for the interim heavyweight title in the UFC Freedom 250 co-main event on June 14 at the White House in Washington D.C. Aspinall is expected to face the winner upon his return, ensuring this heated rivalry is far from over. For fight fans, this is just another reminder that in the heavyweight division, every punch—and every poke—carries weight.
