The Cincinnati Bearcats are bringing a familiar face back into the fold to strengthen the program's foundation. Former star quarterback Tony Pike, a 2025 inductee into the James P. Kelly Hall of Fame, has been named the university's new Football Alumni Engagement Coordinator.

This strategic move by Director of Athletics John Cunningham aims to deepen ties with former players, a critical resource for any thriving football program. Pike's appointment builds on the momentum of the AD Advisory Council, a group of alumni established in Fall 2024 to foster ongoing dialogue between the athletic department and its graduates.

“As we continue to develop the program, there was no better person for this role in the football program than Tony Pike,” Cunningham stated. “His loyalty and passion for those that came before him, as well as the ones he's seen grow through here in succeeding years, are invaluable to our mission."

Pike, who led the Bearcats to a perfect regular season and a Sugar Bowl berth in 2009, is a revered figure in Cincinnati football history. His new role will see him working closely with Cunningham and Dr. Joe Luckey, UC’s Executive Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Support Services, to build bridges across generations of players.

The initiative focuses on creating the same tight-knit camaraderie former players experienced in the locker room, now extending it into their post-collegiate lives. Pike will help identify key connectors from each era and lead a dedicated Football Alumni Council.

“Tony’s passion for UC and his connections with the city and athletics department were perfect combinations to help us build deeper connections within the football alumni community,” added Dr. Luckey.
