A 2026 in-state forward commits to Tennessee basketball over four other schools.

The Tennessee Volunteers' future just got a lot brighter, securing a major in-state commitment for their 2026 recruiting class. Four-star forward Christopher Washington Jr., a 6-foot-9 prospect from Murfreesboro's Providence Christian Academy, has chosen to play for Rick Barnes and the Vols.

Washington Jr., ranked as the No. 1 player in Tennessee and a top-20 small forward nationally by 247Sports, picked the Vols over a formidable list of finalists that included Villanova, Ole Miss, Auburn, and USC. His commitment is a significant win for Tennessee, keeping elite local talent at home.

His recruitment journey saw an earlier commitment to Alabama in September 2025, but he reopened his search in November, ultimately finding his fit in Knoxville. Before his pledge to the Crimson Tide, he held a vast array of offers from programs like Florida State, Michigan, Illinois, Clemson, and Oregon, highlighting his national appeal.

Washington Jr. now joins a strong early foundation for Tennessee's 2026 class, which already includes commitments from small forward Ralph Scott, power forward Manny Green, and point guard Marquis Clark. This group signals the Vols' intent to build a long-term, versatile, and athletic roster capable of competing at the highest levels of the SEC and beyond.
