MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins enter Day 3 of the NFL draft with boxes checked for best player available (BPA) but not for filling needs, specifically at edge rusher.
Here are the Dolphins’ top options for the final day of the draft (in no particular order):
McCoy (6 foot, 188 pounds), a projected first- or second-round pick who sustained a knee injury in January 2025 and missed the season, has become one of the biggest stories of the draft because of how far he’s slipped. He’s got good skills but the knee injury is a major concern.
Scott (5-11, 183), who projects as a nickel/slot, is a playmaker, evidenced by 2 INT return TDs, 13 TFL (tackles for loss), 5.0 sacks, 2 FF (forced fumbles) and 5 PBU (passes broken up).
Payton (6-3, 232), a dual-threat QB, comes from a small school but the same one that produced Carson Wentz, Easton Stick, Trey Lance and Dolphins QB Cam Miller. Payton had 16 TDs and 4 INTs to go along with 777 rushing yards and 13 TDs.
Dennis-Sutton (6-6, 256) is a big player who recorded 42 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 12 TFLs, 3 blocked kicks and 3 FF. He’s a tough, edge-setter who doesn’t have strong pass rush skills. He’s not a playmaker but can be disruptive.
Overton (6-3, 274), who is long-armed and tough, totaled 42 tackles, 4.0 sacks and 6 TFLs. He has the versatility to move inside. He’s a good run defender although his game could use polish in most areas.
Green (6-6, 227) has 4.36-second 40-yard dash speed as well as a strong arm that he used to total 19 TDs and 11 INTs and 777 rushing yards and 8 TDs. Green takes risks but is regarded as someone with good upside. He might never be an NFL starter.

Lew (6-3, 310) sustained an ACL injury in October and missed the remainder of the season. He isn’t an especially strong blocker but he’s effective and gets the job done. He was a three-year starter who started as a true freshman.
McClellan (6-4, 313) had 48 tackles and an impressive 6.0 sacks among his 8 TFLs last season. He has good hands and is hard to move. He handles double teams pretty well.
Taylor (6-7, 314), a fifth-year senior, played for coach Jeff Hafley at Boston College from 2020-23. Taylor is versatile having started all 12 games last season with eight at RG, three at LT and one at RT.
Payne (6-3, 206) had 59 tackles, 3 TFLs and 3 PBUs. He has 4.4 40-yard dash speed and also has a desire to come up and make tackles. He’s not great in coverage but good in attacking the run.
