The Kansas City Chiefs are busy adding running backs to their roster.
They signed Kenneth Walker in free agency from the Seahawks. They drafted Emmett Johnson from Nebraska. They quickly signed undrafted Jadyn Ott from Oklahoma. And now they've signed Emmitt Smith's son.
That's right, the son of the NFL's all-time leading rusher is coming to the Chiefs.
His name is E.J. Smith, and he shared his own news on Instagram.
“Excited to officially sign with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent,” Smith wrote. “Nothing is given. Everything is earned. I’m ready to work, learn, and prove myself every single day. Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me and pushed me to this moment. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge prepared me for this next step. Grateful is an understatement. All glory to God for this opportunity. Let’s get it Chiefs Kingdom.”

The first four were at Stanford, followed by the last two at Texas A&M.
In 2025 for the Aggies, E.J. had 44 carries for 205 yards and four touchdowns.
His entire college career featured 207 total carries for 969 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 470 receiving yards and another score.
Given the Chiefs' quickly crowded RB room, E.J. Smith will likely have to chase a practice squad spot in his rookie season, and even that won't be easy.
But he's getting an NFL chance, and he'll try to make it on the field to start chasing down his father's all-time mark.
