The Kansas City Chiefs tried to diversify their defensive end room when they selected Felix Anudike-Uzomah in the first round several years ago. It didn’t work. General manager Brett Veach struggles to identify speed rushers but excels at finding defenders who win with power. Several high-ranking prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft fit that mold.

Illinois Fighting Illini defensive end Gabe Jacas terrorized offensive linemen at the 2026 Senior Bowl. Many analysts and fans walked away from the week praising Missouri’s Zion Young as the top pass rusher in Mobile, but Jacas won more often and posted more dominant reps against elite competition. He is arguably the most valuable edge rusher who won’t go in the first round tonight.

Jacas is a dense and powerful 6’4”, 260 lb. defensive end. He lacks the speed and bend to dominate offensive tackles around the outside corner, but he accelerates well to whip himself around the edge. He also flexes enough in his knees to get low and mitigate some of the issues with his stiffer hips and ankles. Jacas doesn’t rely on speed, twitch or bend to win as a rusher. His game is all about his insane motor, a well-developed pass rush plan and power.

Jacas’ pass rush plan involves using stab-chops, two-handed swipes, rips, spins, club-swims, long-arms and numerous counters that he sets up with his bull rush. His stab-chop is the most polished in the 2026 NFL Draft and produced numerous quick wins in 2025 and at the Senior Bowl. This rush plan is effective because Jacas’ upper body power and leg drive put linemen on skates, soften the blocker’s shoulders or force the B-gap open.

Jacas keeps his hands engaged throughout the play, stacking rush moves and deploying counters. When all else fails, his motor helps him produce gradual wins that push the quarterback off his spot. He pushes the pocket more often than he collapses it against stout offensive tackles, but working alongside Chris Jones and George Karlaftis should prevent this limitation from becoming detrimental to Jacas’ growth.

Jacas needs to improve as a run defender but already possesses the physical tools to succeed in this area. He uses a long-arm to stack blockers and set the point of attack. Jacas eagerly engages pulling linemen and tight ends. When left unblocked, he explodes down the line of scrimmage to threaten plays as a backside run defender.

Jacas must focus on improving his block deconstruction technique to harness his power and generate separation faster. His gap discipline is questionable, often because he allows himself to collapse off the edge instead of containing potential off-tackle runs.
