It's slowly starting to seem like Patrick Mahomes won't miss a single game for the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs fans, you can breathe a collective sigh of relief—Patrick Mahomes might just be ready to light up the field for Week 1.

When a star quarterback suffers a torn ACL in mid-December, the typical recovery timeline stretches well beyond eight months. For most of us, that kind of injury means months of rehab and cautious steps. But Patrick Mahomes isn't most people. And the latest updates from Chiefs general manager Brett Veach suggest the two-time MVP is defying expectations once again.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio Monday, Veach couldn't contain his excitement about Mahomes' progress. This follows head coach Andy Reid's recent announcement that Mahomes would participate in organized team activities, albeit in a limited capacity. And let's not forget that promising throwing update Mahomes shared just as the NFL unveiled its 2026 season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The signs are all pointing in one direction: Mahomes is gearing up to play.

"I think it wouldn't surprise you guys, the way it's been really inspiring to see," Veach said. "I've been there before with Pat. He had that dislocated knee in 2019 and worked his tail off, came back in three weeks. I knew this bump in the road wouldn't slow him down at all."

What's truly remarkable is Mahomes' commitment. Despite having every resource at his disposal—personal trainers, private facilities, the freedom to recover anywhere—he's been in the Chiefs' building every single day. Even when he takes a weekend trip to visit family in Dallas, he brings a team trainer along. That's the kind of dedication that separates legends from the rest.

Veach summed it up best: "He's way ahead of schedule. I think the biggest challenge we're going to have is protecting him against himself." When training camp kicks off in St. Joseph, Missouri, the Chiefs' biggest task might be holding their superstar back—not pushing him forward.
