When you step into the Kansas City Chiefs' locker room, you feel it immediately—a relentless drive for excellence that has defined this franchise. For rookie defensive lineman Peter Woods, that winning culture is already leaving a lasting impression.
During his first rookie minicamp press conference, Woods couldn't hide his excitement about joining a team that has become synonymous with success. "It was great," he said, reflecting on his initial practices. "The biggest part was just being able to be coached by Coach Cullen for the first time. I've heard so much about his coaching style through the football world, and I feel like we're going to have a great time together. It's going to be fun."
The Chiefs made a bold move to acquire Woods, trading the No. 29 pick along with cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster offseason deal. And it's easy to see why Kansas City was so eager to bring him in. At Clemson, Woods was a Second-team Associated Press All-American in 2025, starting 12 games and posting 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. His best season came in 2024, when he racked up 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and a forced fumble, earning Honorable Mention All-ACC honors. He even showed his versatility by playing 5 snaps as a fullback in the jumbo package.
But what truly sets Woods apart is his mindset—a perfect fit for a team that has hoisted the Lombardi Trophy multiple times. "I don't think there was much that I didn't know because the Chiefs do a lot of winning," Woods explained. "I'd say that is probably what I learned too—that the Chiefs do a lot of winning and what went into it. I'm starting to see a little bit of that now, just how the practice goes and how the coaches coach and the flow of everything. They've earned it at every corner, and we're looking to do that again."
For a rookie walking into a dynasty, Woods is already soaking up every lesson. And for Chiefs fans, that's a sign that the future—and the winning—is in good hands.
